Permits

Permits

Production permits in the Florida Keys and Key West are issued by the local jurisdiction where filming takes place. The Florida Keys and Key West Film Commission can help identify the correct permit path and coordinate with local agencies.

If filming is limited to private property, a public-property film permit is generally not required. Productions are still asked to notify the Film Commission of filming activity in the Florida Keys.

Monroe County and Other Locations

For filming in unincorporated Monroe County, county-owned parks, county-owned roads and bridges, Key Largo, FDOT roads and bridges, state parks, national parks, sanctuary waters or other agency-controlled locations, contact the Film Commission first.

Many productions need more than one approval, especially when filming involves roads, bridges, traffic control, drones, water work, state parks, national parks, protected resources or public property in more than one jurisdiction.

The Film Commission can help identify the correct agency contacts, permit requirements, insurance requirements and timing.

Roads, Bridges and Traffic Control

Filming on U.S. 1, state roads or FDOT-controlled bridges may require coordination with the Florida Department of Transportation, Monroe County, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and other agencies.

For any road, bridge or traffic-control filming request, contact the Film Commission before applying so the correct process can be identified.

Water, Parks and Protected Areas

Additional approvals may be required for filming on or near the water, in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, in Florida State Parks, in Dry Tortugas National Park, in Everglades National Park, at Naval Air Station Key West, or in areas with protected wildlife or turtle nesting activity.

Contact the Film Commission before applying so the correct agency process can be identified.
